Everything that we have been given on earth is merely passing through our hands. We are called by God to be managers of the things He is entrusting to us. This includes our family, our jobs, our health, and our finances. Anything that we mismanage, we will lose. Don't exercise or eat well? Be prepared to lose your health at a later date. If you spend your money frivolously with a lack of intention, don't be shocked when you find yourself broke or losing a job at exactly the wrong time.
While money is not at the center of everything, it certainly has a ripple effect on the stewardship in other areas of your life. One of the first exercises I like to have my clients do is go back to the previous month and see how much money they spent on fast food and eating out. They are always shocked to see they spent $900 instead of $250 like they budgeted for. This causes a ripple effect. "Honey, we have to start cooking at home more often to save money on eating out. We might as well get healthier foods to eat while we're at it. I'll meal prep you some salad for lunch this week instead of Taco Bell and Mcdonalds."
What are some things you could steward better? I want you to focus on what you have already been given, not focusing on what you want. Meet yourself where you are at. Could you be a better manager of your time, money, relationships, friendships, vehicles? Is your living space a mess? Does your car have kid's snacks between the seats from that last birthday party or soccer game? What areas do you feel called to manage better? Money is almost always where people start, and it will cause a beautiful ripple effect if you begin to put more intention into managing it better.
Remember, the way you do one thing is the way you do everything. So where could you begin to manage your resources more wisely? Have confidence in knowing that what you do have, God has trusted you with managing. Good day!
